Blog Tour & Giveaway ~ Blue Moon III: Call of the Alpha by AE Via

 Author A.E. Via
Edited by: Tina Adamski
Cover Artist – Princess SO
Release Date: July 30, 2016

Book 2 is recommended to read first.

It’s been a couple years since Commander John Marion – the US Navy’s most decorated SEAL – hung up his dog tags, choosing his cherished Alpha over war.

Call and Alpha have settled comfortably into their carefree lives nestled in the mountains of South Carolina. No more combat for the Commander and no more ordered killings for the deadliest assassin in the world.

However, nothing stays peaceful forever.

When Alpha’s brother Omega comes to their secluded home with a distressing message from their Order, Alpha has to answer the call.  But what neither of them expect is for the Order to send them a new assassin, one just as deadly as both of them, to seek their counsel and bring them back Persia.

Lion’s commanding presence was not at all what any of them anticipated. Especially Omega. Lion realizes what Omega is to him right away, but the stubborn man fights his every advance. Lion knows he and Omega have to connect if they’re going to be victorious. He was sent to bring back an army but if he can’t get his cherished to yield to him, they are sure to fail.

Call refuses to let Alpha fight a gang of rebel assassins without him. Omega will fight by his brother’s side, no matter what… and Hawk saw them coming for his help before anyone else. Together they’ll fight the toughest opponents they’ve ever faced. As always… these badass warriors are up for the challenge.

The story starts with Call and Alpha at their secluded home in the States, 2 years after meeting each other. Retired from the respective "jobs" but continuing to train with each other to stay at peak performance. Omega, Alphas brother-in-arms, followed Alpha into retirement, but he's restless. Alpha being retired and with hos "cherished", Call, he is no longer Omega's alpha. Loyal to a fault though, Omega continues to follow, but without that leadership, he's a loose cannon.

Omega shows up at their secluded home with information about traitors among the order, and an assassin sent to speak with Alpha to try and get some wisdom, and most importantly, help to try and find these traitors. Alpha is a little hesitant because he doesn't want to put Call in danger, but he has the need and want to protect his home, so he agrees.

They end up traveling to recruit Calls team, the Beastmasters, at the home of Hawk and Pierce. Only, things don't go well when Viper shows up and their plans have to change.

I thought this story was going to be about Call and Alpha, but we get a heavy dose of Lion and Omega. We learn that The Order has been grooming them in an arranged pairing. While Omega feels the pull, he's very reluctant because he doesn't want the life that Alpha is living, he's really not ready to settle down. He feels he still has to find his purpose. So this is where there is a slow burn to the story. Lion has to play this right or he risks scaring off Omega, as he's a flight risk. There's a lot of back and forth between the two.

I love Lions character. I think he's an interesting guy and sort of an anomaly.
That being said, this isn't my favorite story. Normally I get so wrapped up in her stories that I can't put it down. For some reason this one took me several days. While I like the story, it just didn't grip me like all the others.
The real action didn't come until about the last 20% of the story, and the reasoning behind it I found a little lacking and unbelievable. It was a weak excuse for that amount of treachery, but it also goes to show you the greed of men.

So while I loved the characters, Alpha and Lion are amazing (I'm not going to lie, I totally picture Kung Fu Panda while reading this), The story was kind of slow for me. It crammed two relationships into one book and took away from each individual couple and I thought that was a little disappointing, as I felt they each deserved a little more, as they're incredible characters. It's all worth it though to meet Lion :)

I give the book 3.5*

Relearning the Ropes Cover

When his good friend Julius dies unexpectedly, Marcus finds himself saddled with a new submissive–Charlie. But Charlie comes with a history, and a whole host of issues and problems that Marcus has never really dealt with. Marcus knows he loves Charlie, and Charlie loves him, but he'll have to set aside his old theories about BDSM and relearn the ropes, so to speak, if he wants to be the Dom Charlie needs him to be. Previously published by Breathless Press.

Marcus rolled over to stare at the clock. 3:25 AM. A month ago, at precisely that moment, his phone had rung. He'd answered it, expecting it to be the only person who ever called him that late, his friend Julius, but instead it was Julius' lawyer. The man apologized for waking Marcus, but Julius was dead -- condolences, of course -- and Julius left the care of his sub, Charlie, to Marcus, and could Marcus please go over to Julius' house and fetch Charlie? At 3:45 AM that morning Marcus went and picked Charlie up, and, for the past month, Charlie slept in the spare bedroom across the hall. Marcus hadn't slept since. Not that he didn't like or want Charlie. He did, on both counts. Loved Charlie, was quite in love with Charlie. But if Marcus had wanted a live-in sub -- which he hadn't, his life was far too busy and complicated, and he was entirely too set in his ways -- he wouldn't have chosen one like Charlie. Charlie was a complex little creature: delicate and high-maintenance. He took everything Marcus knew about how to treat a sub and turned it upside down. He thought back, remembering how, a little over two years ago, Julius had phoned him in the middle of the night, music blaring in the background so loudly that Marcus could barely hear himself speaking, let alone Julius. Julius had gone down to his favorite club, spotted Charlie, and Marcus had ended up loaning him five hundred thousand dollars to buy the battered and bruised sub out of the sex slave ring he'd been held captive in. Charlie had come such a long way since then, learning to live as a sub instead of a slave, and finding a niche in the working world. Marcus didn't want to do anything to set him back. Marcus groaned and flipped over onto his other side, putting the mocking glare of the clock's bright red numbers behind him. Aside from Charlie, Marcus had never dominated a man he'd loved. He had no clue how to reconcile the two. Charlie needed clear boundaries, a clear definition of their relationship, but how was he supposed to define their relationship to Charlie if he couldn't define it to himself? He tried to treat Charlie like any other sub, but the fact of the matter was Charlie wasn't just any other sub. Sold into sexual slavery at fifteen, Charlie had been dragged all across the country before he'd landed in Julius' hands. Marcus was all business when he served as a Dom at Anton's BDSM playhouse, clinical, almost; for most of the men he played with, that was enough -- the domination, the control. But Charlie, Charlie needed more. The only question, was could he give it? He sighed and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to force himself back to sleep.

Release Day Blitz & Giveaway ~ Lavender in Bloom by Lily Velez

    Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00023]

(+ a $100 Amazon GiFt Card Giveaway!)

Lavender in Bloom by: Lily Velez
Publication Date: July 25th, 2016
Genre: Historical, Coming-of-Age Romance

It’s the year 1802 in Avignon, France
Noah Capet has spent most of his young life living simple and unvaried days in the hushed countryside of southern France. Quiet, reserved, and diffident, his preference for existing is to do so in solitude, keeping to himself both in town and on his family’s farm—a predilection that’s altogether disrupted when a newcomer to town by the name of Jeremie Perreault begins an unremitting quest to befriend him. Jeremie is everything Noah is not. Charismatic and gregarious, he leaves a trail of charmed admirers in his wake wherever he goes. Expressive and idealistic, he talks without end about his deep love for old books and his spirited dream to one day travel the world on a literary pilgrimage. Over the course of a single summer, the two form an unlikely friendship, but just as quickly as it develops, it soon entirely dissolves as they’re forced to face the truth of what has unexpectedly emerged between them. Lavender in Bloom is a tender and tragic coming-of-age story about first love and self-discovery, and a poignant reminder that time is fleeting and always takes with it the choices we’re too afraid to make.

Stephanie's Favorite Summer Recipe
I like to keep it simple with blue-raspberry vodka and lemonade with LOADS of ice. I could drink these all day on a hot summer day!!

Stephanie's Summer Tip:
If you have dogs, take a giant tupperware bowl, fill it with chicken broth and dog toys and freeze it. When it's fully solid, take it outside and let your dogs go to town on it! They get a nice cool treat and a bunch of other fun surprises while eating away at the yummy ice.

Stephanie's Favorite Summer Memories
I have to say it was when we were younger, my mother would take my sister and I to all the nearest lakes in the state to go swimming. We had so much fun diving off piers and meeting new friends and having picnics on the beach. I really miss those days!!

E.Lo's Favorite Summer Recipe
I live in the land of watermelons, we even have a watermelon festival every summer around my birthday so naturally my favorite summer recipe is a good ol' spiked melon.
All you need is a watermelon that's about 10 lbs, and your favorite bottle of vodka.
Cut a hole in the melon large enough to fit a funnel and start pouring. Pour enough that you are not overflowing the melon and let it rest for a bit, about 3 hours or so and repeat the process till you have enough vodka to your liking. Pop that melon in the fridge overnight, slice it up and enjoy!

E.Lo's Favorite Summer Tip
When you know that you and the fam are going out for the day, pop a few wet washcloths or sponges in a ziplock bag in the freezer the night before. The next day, put them in your bag or cooler and you will have something to help you and your gang to cool off with.

E.Lo's Favorite Summer Memory
As a kid growing up in the country in the Heart (and heat) of Texas we were outside from sunup till sundown. We had several tanks on our property that we usually found ourselves sneaking off to. We had a rope tied to a tree for a good ol' rope swing, it's a miracle that none of us broke our necks on that We would listed for our Grandmothers call and when we got to the house she would "rinse us off with the hose", because of course none of us were smart enough to change into our swim suits. Our evenings would be spent catching lightning bugs and putting them in a mason jar while eating homemade ice cream. I sure miss being a kid sometimes.

For your chance to win a surprise paperback, comment on this blog post one of your own favorite summery things to do or a recipe
*cough* we like alcoholic recipes *cough*

The paperback WILL be an MM Romance! But we're not saying which one, because we reaaaallly like surprises!! ((Unless it's an accident from our dogs))

Winner will be chosen at random on August 9th. Winner has 72 hours to claim their prize.

Disgraced former FBI agent Tim Burkhart desperately wants to reclaim his life and find happiness. Relocating his fledgling private security company to Miami—where his ex-wife moved their two daughters—hopefully is a start. When he’s hired to provide protection for an antiques dealer on his way to Scotland to sell a priceless ancient dirk, Tim believes the break he’s been waiting for has finally arrived. Maybe now he can make enough money to hire a lawyer and get shared parenting of his little girls.
Elliot James runs the antique shop he inherited after his grandfather’s death. Lonely and swimming in debt, he longs for a way to turn his life around but keeps making one mistake after another. Then he finds the ancient dirk tucked away among junk as he’s cleaning out his grandfather’s home. Placing it up for sale, he is thrilled when an out of country buyer purchases the priceless antique. The buyer wants the dirk immediately and sends Tim to ensure Elliot safely delivers it on time.
The moment Tim and Elliot meet, however, everything falls apart. Between break-ins, shoot-outs, stalkers, totaled cars, and the cops, it seems Tim and Elliot will never get to Scotland by the deadline. Despite all the obstacles, an unexpected attraction pulls them together, offering each man a glimmer of hope. But if they don’t deliver the dirk on time, they won’t get paid and neither of them will be able to pick up the pieces of their lives.

Staring down the sights of his Colt 1911 and into the panicked eyes of the young man, Tim said, “Keep your hands where I can see ’em. I want to know where Mr. James is and why you’re in his store.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Tim saw a flash of metal. Instinctively he dropped to the floor. The sharp crack of a bullet shot through the store, shattering something on his left.
The guy behind the counter made a run for the door.
Tim rolled behind the armoire, gritting his teeth when the door slammed shut and the first guy got away. Careful to stay out of sight, Tim assessed the shooter who’d come from the back room. He looked as young and inexperienced as the one who’d run. Tim recognized the weapon in his hand—a 9mm semi-automatic Beretta. Though Tim’s .45 could out-shoot the little pea-shooter at the range, he had no interest in finding out who was the better shot in real life.
“¿Adónde vas? ¡Esperame!” the shooter yelled to his retreating friend.
Wait for me. Tim knew enough Spanish. The guy planned to make a run for it, too. He clambered to his feet. Before he could tackle and subdue him, the kid aimed his Beretta in the general direction of the armoire and fired off a volley of shots.
“Shit!” Tim dove behind a stack of rugs to dodge the bullets.
The gun went silent.
Tim rolled fast onto his back, his 1911 aimed, only to watch the kid flying out the door behind his friend. The door bounced a few times until it closed, the bells clanging.
“Shit! Shit!”
The scraping sounds in the back room, louder than before, drew his attention once more.
As fast as he could, he crept around the counter, his heart pounding. Both hands on his gun, trigger finger resting on the frame and trigger guard, he took a quick peek into the room, ducking back before a possible third perp could make him.
In less than a heartbeat, his brain registered what he’d seen. He exhaled. Keeping his gun lowered but at-the-ready, he entered.
In the center of what looked like a storage room sat the man Tim had been hired to escort to Scotland. He’d been gagged and duct-taped to a chair.
Elliot James.
“Is anyone else here?” Tim murmured.
Mr. James shook his head wildly.
With a relieved sigh, he rushed over to the man and yanked the gag out. “You okay?”
“Yeah.” He gasped for air. “I’m fine.”
“Were there only two?” he clarified, eyes still peeled for danger.
“Yeah,” he managed, his face flushed and startling green eyes wide. Sandy-brown curls fell across the brow of a very frightened but very beautiful man. He took a few slow, ragged breaths, obviously trying to calm himself. “Just the two of them.”
Tim took a steadying breath of his own and slowly released the hammer on his Colt and flipped the safety up, never taking his gaze off Mr. James. “What happened?” He holstered the weapon then tore the duct tape from the man’s wrist.
“Aarrghh!” Mr. James jumped, the chair bouncing.
Tim winced when he noticed the arm hairs stuck to the tape in his hand. “Sorry ’bout that.” He paused over the other strip. “This one’s gonna hurt, too.”
Mr. James pursed his lips and nodded bravely. He let out a tiny hiss when Tim freed his second arm. That one didn’t take as much hair because a silver bracelet had protected most of the skin. Obviously, those punks had been amateurs in restraining.
“Sorry,” Tim said again.
Rubbing his wrists, he let out a breathy laugh. “It’s okay. Thank you for saving my life.”
“I believe that’s what I was paid for. I’m Tim Burkhart, your private security detail.”
Mr. James’s smile made his heart flutter. No, probably just the adrenaline. Tim didn’t get butterflies.
“Nice to finally meet you, Mr. Burkhart.”
“Call me Tim.” He stood and withdrew his phone. He gestured toward his bound legs. “You okay to get those? I gotta call the cops.”
Tim almost dropped his phone when Mr. James shouted. He gaped at the man. “What do you mean no?”
Prying tape off of his khaki pants, the man paused. Those big green eyes grew even wider. “You can’t call the cops. My whole life depends on it!”
