All Remy Harker wants is a fresh start.

Well, maybe that’s what he tells himself as he rolls up to his nice new house, in the nice little neighborhood, in a town where nobody knows his name.
He’s surrounded by friendly neighbors and a white picket fence. The ugly pink carpet might drive him to insanity, and he can’t stop wondering where the old lady who lived there before him died—but it’s nice.
And if he puts his mind to it, he can be anything—or anyone—he wants to be. He can be nice too.
At least, he thinks he can until he lays eyes on his next-door neighbor.

Luke Boucher is nice.
And quiet.
And perfect.

It doesn’t take long for Remy to insinuate himself into Luke’s life. A camera here, a break-in there.
– It’s not really stalking if you love someone, is it? –

But when Remy’s plan to make a good impression goes to hell, he ends up over his head in more ways than one. Then things aren’t quite so nice anymore.
– It’s not really murder if you love someone, is it? –

Loving your neighbor isn’t so easy when you’re the devil next door.

Wow.... this story was quite unexpected.
Remy made me a bit nervous, or maybe stalking makes me nervous. Either way, holy sweaty palms. When people do a little B&E or something they shouldn't be, I feel like I'm an accomplice lol

Going into the story, we have no idea who Remy is (or was) or anythign about why he's moved or about his therapist. You can't really tell either if he's talking past tense about said therapist because he has moved or if thy're "gone". You're kind of learning it all as you go, so there,s a mystery in itself.
What I wasn't expecting was that turn of events with Remy's "wrong move" and what it brings out in the rest of the story.

Alex wrote, basically a thriller/horror story, but I will say it wasn't gory. Or, not as gory as it could have been. There was surprisingly a lack of detail in the process of death here. I honestly don't know if I am grateful or not lol! On one hand...eew.. but on the other hand, it can really add another dimension to the story, a thrill, a wrongness. Some people just have a strange fascination with death and serial killers and how they did it. You'll only get some of that here, no major details on the hows, just that it happened.

With all that said... stalking, killing, I actually LIKED these characters. I was rooting for them and their relationship. I thought Remy was kind of sweet and he and Luke were sweet together. Here we go again, another Criminal Delights story where the couple is strangely sweet (*cough* K.A. Merikan Wrong Turn *cough*) :)

4 stalkerish stars****

After spending far too long creating stories in her head, Alex finally plucked up the courage to write them down and realized it was quite fun seeing them on the page after all.

Free from aspirations of literary greatness, Alex simply hopes to entertain by spinning a good yarn of love and life, wrapped up with a happy ending. Although, if her characters have to go through Hell to get there, she’s a-okay with that.

With only a dysfunctional taste in music and a one-eyed dog to otherwise fill her days, Alex writes and walks on the South Coast of England—even when her heart and spellcheck are in New York.

New Contemporary Angsty Romance - If We Could Go Back by Cara Dee

Title: If We Could Go Back
Author: Cara Dee
Genre: MM Romance/Angst

Synopsis:
My sister asked me if I could stand the sight my own reflection, if I’d caused enough damage yet, but I didn’t see myself when I looked into the mirror. I saw Kieran standing behind me, pressing a kiss to my shoulder while he undid my belt. I saw everything I wanted that I couldn’t have. Not unless I was prepared to hurt everyone around me.

Kieran was in a similar situation.

Were we monsters or men? Were they one and the same? Did we give a flying f—hell. We did care. Just not enough to stop, not enough to walk away, and I knew we constantly asked ourselves the same question because of it. If we could go back to when we met on the train…if we could erase the deceit, erase our first hello…would we?

Excerpt:
Kieran Marshall was a good bloke. A great fucking guy. One of the best out there. He poured another round of shots, and I chased one down with a swallow of beer.

Who needed to try cocaine to spice up their boring life when you could meet an Irish enigma from Boston?

“Fuck, that’s it,” I hissed as the burn slid down.

I groaned and dragged my hands over my face. This was the life. This was the escape I’d needed for months now. I felt so good.

It’d taken us half an hour to get a buzz, and in that time, we’d gotten a few random topics out of the way. I learned we were the same age, only he was a September kid while I was turning twenty-nine in a few weeks. He’d gone to college in Savannah and dropped out after two semesters. It was in Georgia he’d met his wife, who was apparently six years older than him, and she was from Seattle. In order to escape the city rents when they eventually headed west, they’d settled down in Camassia and never left, even as his company started doing really well.

It was a Kieran Marshall crash course. Hardly enough, but it was a good beginning.
“I have a question.” I coughed into my fist, and Kieran waved a hand in go-ahead before downing another shot. “You said you worked three jobs and quit college. Today, you have a great job. Your wife, you said, earned a master’s in anthropology, and now she’s at home.”

“Yeah.” He pushed two shot glasses my way, both brimming with whiskey. “She’s…” He exhaled a chuckle. “She’s something else. Her mind—she’s one of the smartest women I know, but…she walked away. She doesn’t wanna work.”

“Huh.” I took a swig of my beer, and by chance, I caught a glimpse of a snack menu over the bar. Hell. I wanted wings. My stomach snarled in approval, so I got the bartender’s attention. “Can I have one of those, uh…” I pointed vaguely at the menu and squinted. “With all the snacks, a mix plate. Extra wings, thanks.”

“Sure thing.” The woman turned to Kieran. “Anything for you?”

“That sounds good—” He stifled a belch. “I’ll have the same.”

Glancing over my shoulder, I deduced the happy hour crowd had morphed into the group of lucky suckers who could go out on a Wednesday just like that. The music was a little louder, and everyone was a little drunker. My kind of people.

“Anyway.” I faced Kieran again and blanched. “What were we talking about?”

He laughed and shook his head. “I have no fucking clue.” He figured that was a reason to slide another shot my way, even though I hadn’t finished the other two. I had to catch up. “How did you meet Allison?”

“College.” I threw back a shot and made a face. “She had a full ride at Northwestern when she started. I was already a sophomore.” We were the same age, but Allison had taken a year off to plant trees in…some country where there were already trees everywhere. Okay, that was harsh of me.
Kieran let out a low whistle. “Good school. What did you study?”

“Marketing,” I replied. “Allison was studying finance, but—well.”

Kieran’s mouth twisted, and I narrowed my eyes at the little movement. He had…a mouth. And a faint five-o’clock shadow. My own mouth ran dry.

About Cara:

I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

Blurb

When Wicksy falls for drag queen Charlie, they discover that both sexuality and gender can be fluid.

Simon Wicks—Wicksy to his rugby teammates—has only ever been interested in women. But when he sets eyes on Lady Gogo, a drag queen who performs at Rainbow Place, he can’t stop thinking about her. He knows there’s a guy behind the fishnets and make-up, but he’s ready to explore his fantasies, and Lady Gogo is game for making them come true.

Charlie adores performing in drag. It allows him to indulge in his love of cross-dressing while earning some extra cash. Fooling around with a mostly straight guy in secret seems like a fun diversion, and gives him the chance to explore his feminine side. He feels safe wearing the mask of his confident alter ego, because the real Charlie is hidden from view.

When Wicksy sees more of the guy behind the make-up and glitter, his attraction to Charlie persists, and he realises he’s bisexual. In turn, Charlie begins to understand and accept his gender fluidity. As their mutual journey of self-discovery brings them closer, the secrecy becomes increasingly hard to deal with. If they’re going to have a future together, they both need to find the courage to show people who they really are.

Although this book is part of a linked series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn’t stopped writing since.

Jay writes contemporary romance about men who fall in love with other men. He has five books published by Dreamspinner Press, and also self-publishes under the imprint Jaybird Press. Many of his books are now available as audiobooks.

Synopsis for Don’t Fight The Spark:
As the Light Festival draws near, the Něssyrians craft paper lanterns, awaiting the most important holiday of the year.

The Lyliňg Fighting House, too, prepares for celebration—by laying fresh sand onto the arena and setting up a match against their top pit fighter, the unrivalled Yüuzuki Ōren.
His last match. One he can’t win.

With the odds more than stacked against him, the gorgeous Barbarian is as good as dead. Unless his lover, healer Ĥaiatto kana, proves himself every bit as determined as he is clever and finds a way to protect the man he'd stop at nothing to save.

Excerpt

They brought him to me bloodied and beaten to a pulp three days before the Night of Lights.

Being battered black and blue after a fight came with the territory for an ih’mohrô, even one as good as Yüuzuki Ōren. Not once in the past, however, had he ended up unresponsive in my treatment room. My stomach plummeted at the sight of two guards hauling him between them like a sack of coal. Was the dread that had haunted my dreams about to transpire?

Careful not to unmask my fear, I schooled my features. “Here.” I ushered the men to the exam table, erected in the middle of my study for easy access.

I did my best not to wince when Yüu’s limp body landed on top of the linen-dressed surface with a dull thump.

I got to him in two leaps and busied myself with arranging him in a recovery position. Placing two fingers on the inside of his wrist, I took his pulse. It felt thready and rapid, but it was there. I observed his chest rising and falling in shallow but regular breaths. Having seen no evidence of a collapsed lung or any blockage in his airways, I sighed with relief.

The blood caking his body—part dried, part fresh—prevented me from fully determining the damage.

I ordered the men to step back and allow me room to work. The next moment, I snatched my emergency kit from the side cabinet and prepared a basin of fresh water, dampening a soft muslin washcloth in it. Having settled Yüu onto his back with speed and care, I proceeded to clean the skin of the wounded man.

Not just any man, but the one I loved.

The scanty outfit of a pit-fighter, consisting of a simple loincloth, allowed me to get on with my task right away, taking stock of his injuries as the sweeping movements of my hands uncovered more and more scrapes, cuts and contusions.

Yüu was as tough as they came. The toughest. I would know, having treated him and other prized combatants of the Lyliňg Fighting House for over three years. If his body shut down, going into shock from blood loss and pain, both must’ve been significant.

Author Bio:

First off- that cover is GORGEOUS! I love everything that is happening there.

Second- Once you finish, you'll realize this title is SO fitting for this story, and how cute is that?

We've all come to know that Kasia does shorter stories. We've also come to know that they are not lacking in anyway due to their length. She really packs some meat into these stories.

World building, language, characters, it's all so refreshing and creative and i LOVE everyone in this order universe so far, but I am pretty sure the Assassin's Guild is my favorite so far.

I adore Haiatto and Yuu. Yuu is this "savage" fighter and Haiatto is the Fighting house's healer.

They've (in secret) become and unlikely pair. If opposites attract, they're here to prove it and I love them for it. Yuu is so caring with Haiatto, which is a total 180 from what he shows to the rest of the world. Of course, Haiatto loves taking care of him, but he also worries about him but has to hide it from The House.

When the latest fight brings Yuu in more damaged than normal, Haiatto just knows that his next fight will be his last, and he'll do what it takes to save them both. This is the story of Haiatto's courage in doing what he has to, and Yuu finally finding a real home in him.

it is a lovely story, and whether or not we'll see them again in the next, remains to be seen. I can't wait for more in this series though, I really hope we get more about the Assassin's Guild :)

— ONE WRONG TURN. ONE RIGHT MAN. —

Colin. Rule-follower. Future doctor. Witness to murder. Captive.

Taron. Survivalist. Mute. Murderer. Captor.

Like every other weekend, Colin is on his way home from university, but he’s taunted by the notion that he never takes risks in life and always follows the beaten path. On impulse, he decides to take a different route. Just this one time. What he doesn’t realize is that it’s the last time he has a choice.

He ends up taking a detour into the darkest pit of horror, abducted by a silent, imposing man with a blood-stained axe. But what seems like his worst nightmare might just prove to be a path to the kind of freedom Colin never knew existed.

Taron has lived alone for years. His land, his rules. He’d given up on company long ago. After all, attachment is a liability. He deals with his problems on his own, but the night he needs to dispose of an enemy, he ends up with a witness to his crime.

The last thing Taron needs is a nuisance of a captive. Colin doesn’t deserve death for setting foot on Taron’s land, but keeping him isn’t optimal either. It’s only when he finds out the city boy is gay that an altogether different option arises. One that isn’t right, yet tempts him every time Colin’s pretty eyes glare at him from the cage.

“When Taron looped the heavy metal collar around the slender neck and closed the padlock, his body throbbed with the excitement of knowing he owned this boy.

Was it so, so good? Definitely.”

This story made me nervous. Then it made me laugh and get angry, and to be honest, ashed some tears. Whatever, I liked Toran's cats... and Colin. When Colin was sad, apparently so was I.  I'm so fist bumping Colin for being a size queen too LOL!! I've not read any books (that I remember) that were specific to this.

I had joked in the authors facebook group about reading the word "emerged" as "Ermegherd" and Kat informed me there's a few ermegherd moments. She wasn't lying. Right from the very intense beginning, up until the catalyst that would make or break Colin and Toran. OMG!
I can't blame Colin at all for his reactions. If something that horrible happened to me, I'd want actual assistance too. See, Toran is an off the grid, doomsday kind of bloke. On top of some illegal happenings, he doesn't want to draw attention to himself from the government, so I also see his side.  It was hard being mad at Toran though, because out of all that savagery there is this total sweet guy who protects his cats, land and animals.

Toran slightly reminded me of Mr. B with that bunker. If you've read about the hipster, you'll understand what I'm talking about :) Maybe a little bit of Luis from The Cattery :p (minus the roleplay, just the fondness for cats)

I really liked these two together, I am glad they figured everything out.
